A sad day for the Irish music Industry..
Yesterday it was announced the Meteor Awards will not be going ahead this year. Having just celebrated their 10th anniversary this was quite unexpected.
No announcements have been made regarding next year. I, for one, personally hope the meteor awards will be back in action as not only do they attract big name acts like Snoop Dog, Muse and Amy Winehouse but they also create a bit of excitement in what is largely quite a depressing economy.
According to the official statement:
After 10 great rockin’ years, capturing thousands of music memories and raising over €1 million for charities, the organisers of The Meteor Ireland Music Awards have decided to take a break, and not produce a show this year.
Since their inception in 2001, the Meteors have become synonymous with music in Ireland and have celebrated the best of Irish and international music, as well as recognising up and coming home-grown talent. The awards have seen performances from some of the biggest names in the global music industry including Muse, Elton John, Snoop Dog, The Script, Dizee Rascal, Kaiser Chiefs, Westlife, Boyzone, Tom Jones, Amy Winehouse and countless others.
We wish to take this opportunity to thank all those who have participated in anyway over the past 10 years.
