The Amsterdam District Court has ruled that Ananda Marchildon, winner of Holland’s Next Top Model 2008, has won a lawsuit against Elite models after she was dropped by the agency for having hips that were deemed too large, despite the model’s dress size being a US size 2. The judge stated that was entitled to the main prize she won in the 2008 production of the show, a three-year contract with Elite, worth £63,000.
Marchildon argued she was dismissed after only £8,400 worth of work because she didn’t lose enough weight to please the agency.
Elite spokeswoman Rita Camelli, in Milan, Italy, said the agency was considering its options.
‘Of course we are pretty disappointed’ in the ruling, she said. ‘We felt we were in the right.’
It’s pretty ridiculous that Elite feel that they are right to ask their models to lose weight when they are already slimmer than the average woman.
As a result of the case, underwear company Sloggi hired Marchildon for a shoot last Monday to show she is still suitable model for their brand. Great move from Sloggi!
